OCDE is a public education organization offering support to 28 school districts and more than 600 schools and 20,000 educators serving approximately 450,000 students in Orange County.
OCDE is committed to connecting students, families and schools with services that promote academic success, wellness and strong communities.

Learn about LCAPS
As a critical component of the new Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF), every school district must engage parents and the community to create a Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP). The LCAP is intended to be a comprehensive planning tool to help all students succeed. Parents, families and community members can have a voice in the development and evaluation of their school districts’ LCAP throughout the year.

How the challenge started and who leads it
For over two decades, Timeless Learning, Inc. has focused on fostering children's literacy through mission-driven programs. Our vision: a world where every young learner has the opportunity and confidence to change the future.
Building on that foundation, the S.T.E.A.M. Race to Space Reading Challenge launched in 2021 in partnership with 4SPACE Co and the Orange County Department of Education. The challenge continues each year with schools across Orange County, California.
