Fourth District PTA president Patty Christiansen receives OCDE Outstanding Contributions Award

Congratulations to Fourth District PTA President Patty Christiansen, who was recognized for her many years of volunteer service to children and schools with an Outstanding Contributions to Education Award from the Orange County Department of Education. The award was presented at the Nov. 13, 2008, meeting of the Orange County Board of Education. More than 20 Fourth District PTA members were on hand to cheer as Patty received the well-deserved award. -- Gisela Meier

January 2009 President's Letter

Years ago, our son Michael decided to transfer to a neighboring high school because it offered a sport that was not available at our local school. By this time, I had served in PTA for about 20 years. I felt comfortable in my particular PTA community, and knew almost everyone.

Fourth District PTA proposes a convention resolution on the dysfunctional California state budget process

The Fourth District PTA Advocacy Team has written a resolution that addresses this issue and submitted it to the California State PTA for possible consideration at the 2009 state convention. This resolution urges California State PTA and its units, councils and districts to �advocate for and actively support a constitutional amendment that reduces the voting margin for passage of both the California state budget and revenue measures in the California legislature to a 55% vote or a simple majority.�

Over 12,800 students participate in 2008-09 Reflections contest

More than 12,800 students from Fourth District PTA within all 21 councils and our one out-of-council unit, Rio Contiguo, participated in the 2008-2009 National PTA Reflections Program. That is an increase of more than 1,000 students over last year. Our unit Reflections chairpersons did a great job promoting the program and encouraging children in all grades to express themselves through art. Students really responded to the theme of �Wow!�

Student Artists to be Honored at WOW! Reflections Reception

DECEMBER 1, 2008 - Young artists from throughout Fourth District PTA will be honored at the 2008-2009 “WOW!” Reflections Reception and Gallery on Saturday, January 31.

The event will be held at the Orange County Department of Education, Building A, 200 Kalmus Drive, Costa Mesa from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Entries from all of the students whose work advanced to the Fourth District PTA for judging will be on display. Each of these students will receive a Participation Award from the Fourth District PTA. All of the Fourth District PTA Reflections Awards will be announced at this event. One entry from each Art Division and each Age Category will be honored with the Award of Excellence and will advance to the California State PTA for judging.

Everyone is invited to attend and share in the fun and excitement as we celebrate and recognize all of our talented artists. Reflections chairs and PTA presidents are encouraged to come and show support for their students.
